A brief analysis of Fox Talbot.
In 1909 the millionaire French banker and philanthropist Albert Kahn embarked on an ambitious project to create a colour photographic record of, and for, the peoples of the world. As an idealist and an internationalist, Kahn believed that he could use the new Autochrome process, the world's first user-friendly, true-colour photographic system, to promote cross-cultural peace and understanding. Kahn sent photographers to more than 50 countries, often at crucial junctures in their history, when age-old cultures were on the brink of being changed for ever by war and the march of twentieth-century globalization.

78 years ago George Eastman (founder of Kodak) took his own life with a revolver to the heart. This story takes a look at his suicide note, and brushes upon what Eastman would do with today's kodak issues.
Todd Gustavson discusses the Lunar Orbiter Camera manufactured by Eastman Kodak, which is now a part of the George Eastman House International Museum of Photography and Film Technology Collection. The collection is one of the world's largest collections of photographic and cinematographic equipment. Mr. Gustavson is curator of the Technology Collection of George Eastman House International Center of Photography and Film.

James Francis "Frank" Hurley, was an Australian photographer, film maker and adventurer. He participated in a number of expeditions to Antarctica and served as an official photographer with Australian forces during both world wars.
His artistic style produced many memorable images but he also used staged scenes, composites and photographic manipulation for which he has been criticised on the grounds that it diminished the documentary value of his work.

The history of photography is Beaumont Newhall! Throughout most of the 20th century he has seen a central figure in the movement to have photography recognized as an art form. It might also be said that he created the "history of photography" as a distinct and respected field of study. As a founder and father of the history of photography, photographer, curator, art historian, writer, scholar, teacher and administrator it seems as if there has been more than one Beaumont Newhall. Beginning in 1938 at the Museum of Modern Art, he created the first retrospective exhibition of the 100-year-old art of photography.

This animated timeline is a concise history of some of the most important events to shape photography from 1839 - 2008.
